The Chief Technology Officer will set SmileDirectClub’s strategic direction, development and future growth for technology and innovation. You’ll oversee architecture, software and application development while leading a multi-disciplinary team working with Agile / Lean methods making sure technology roads maps are aligned with business strategy.

Responsibilities:

  • Set, lead and develop technical strategy that aligns with SmileDirectClub’s overall business objectives
  • Develop strategic plans and set timelines for evaluation, development, and deployment of portfolio wide technology (technical, web, and mobile services)
  • Represent the technological agenda in executive meetings
  • Identify opportunities for web and mobile services
  • Lead architecture team and technology owners to define technical blueprints, roadmaps, and principles that drive day-to-day design decisions
  • Develop strategic architecture vision and guiding principles that empowers autonomous design decisions
  • Establish software development process and set objectives for process
  • Oversee all system design and changes in system architecture
  • Track, analyze and monitor technology performance metrics to improve effectiveness of company’s technology strategy
  • Monitor web analytics, identify company web user needs and make recommendations that align to business goals
  • Supervise quality assurance processes, integration, and system tests
  • Share and evangelize technology vision, opportunities, and risks company wide
  • Consistent record of building systems that resolve technology decisions through decision making, efficiently and at scale
  • Develop, track and control development of annual operating and capital budgets for purchasing, staffing and operations
  • Create overall technology standards and practices and ensure best practices are met
  • Keep abreast of current and new industry trends. best practices, technologies and software development
  • Take initiative in thought leadership, innovation and creativity
  • Work closely with Marketing to define and deliver new products and enhancements
  • Engage in speaking opportunities, conference, media activities to build strong online presence
  • Ensure SmileDirectClub’s technological processes and service comply with all requirements, laws, and regulations

It will really make us smile if you have…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture and QA
  • Consistent track record developing and executing vision for technical direction
  • Technical leadership of complex, secure, high-volume, and highly available processing environments
  • Experience designing large scale, high performance, distributed systems (e. g. cloud) processing large amounts of data with high throughput characteristics
  • Experience building scalable application architectures and with the progression from traditional frameworks to micro services
  • Experience with data visualization and the cognitive science of working effectively with large volumes of data
  • Experience with machine learning
  • Consistent track record securing entire product portfolios at scale through deep knowledge of secure architectures & secure-by-design practices
  • Strong ability to bring together individuals, teams and organizations. Ability to resolve conflict and drive execution
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to audiences of all levels and backgrounds (executive, business, and technical)
  • Successful startup experience
  • Successful experience at a mid to large size company
  • Ability to work with uncertainty and change of evolving business with enthusiasm
  • Experience with technology relative to industry; .Net / core, C#, Python, SQL Server, MongoDB, Solr, jQuery, Angular, AWS, IIS, GitHub, Grunt/Gulp, Node.JS
